Atlantic storms have pounded legendary caves and blow-holes from the cliffs along Mayo's megalithic north coast. Here at Downpatrick Head, the Annals of the Four Masters have recorded that the Dún (fort) was cut off by the sea in 1393, leaving inhabitants stranded until they were rescued by ropes from the mainland. Their archaeological remains can be seen on Google Earth.
