Daybreak on the Shannon, Galway/Tipperary
A rosy spring cloudscape floats over the Shannon at Hayes's Island on the Galway/Tipperary border. The small island was an old fording point and now anchors the bridge between the counties at Portumna, where the river flows south into Lough Derg.
The website for the
Inland Waterways of Ireland
has an excellent collation of material on the River Shannon, including an article on the
Landscape of the River
from the
Shell Guide to the River Shannon.
